Two people died and two others were injured in a single-vehicle crash in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County.

State police trooper Michele Davis said the four were in a Volkswagen GTI that went off the 600 block of W. Pine Street in a curve and struck a tree just after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The county coroner's office has identified the driver as 20-year-old Natasha Haulman, of Newville, and her front seat passenger as 21-year-old Benjamin Bloser, of Carlisle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the back seat were taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Sadie McKeehan, 19, was listed in good condition and Robert Smyser, 20, was said to be in fair condition.

Coroner Todd Eckenrode said that "speed clearly played a part" in the crash.

Ed Koser, who lives nearby, said speeding is a problem on the road.

"There's always a lot of accidents," Koser said. "The speed limit is 35, but they're always going too fast for the turn."

Police said Haulman was wearing her seatbelt, but it is believed that none of her passengers were buckled.
