Brad Muster was holidaying at Whistler Mountain with his girlfriend and friends when he died on Thursday.
He was reportedly snowboarding with his girlfriend when they realised they could not continue on their chosen run because of steep terrain.
The pair took off their boards and tried to walk down the mountain but Mr Muster reportedly slipped and fell down the hill, hitting trees and suffering a severe head injury in an area known as the Blue Cliffs.
A doctor provided advanced life support at the mountain before Mr Muster was taken by helicopter to the Whistler Health Care Centre.
He was transferred to Vancouver General Hospital but died on Thursday.
The couple on a holiday in New Zealand.
A cousin, who did not wish to be named, said his death was "just tragic".
"Before (Brad) left Freeling, he was heavily involved in the local football club, in cricket and in all sorts of things in the community," they told adelaidenow.
"This is certainly a great loss to the community and, of course, to his family."
Mr Muster's former employer, Freeling publican Brenton Hancock, has lowered his pub's flag to half-mast as a sign of respect for the local boy.
"You always read about someone being a top bloke – he really was," Mr Hancock said.
The Freeling man was a good snowboarder who also loved football and cricket.
