A Lake County man has been accused of murdering his wife.

Martin Brown was indicted Wednesday morning for the murder of Valerie Watts.

Police believe 55 year old Martin Carl Brown murdered his wife sometime between June 1st and July 9th.

"The grand jury yesterday returned an indictment against Mr. Brown." States Lake County District Attorney David Schutt. "There are eight charges, murder being the first one, constituting domestic violence."

Brown is also charged with abuse of a corpse, possession of methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and tampering with evidence.

The body of Brown's 47 year old wife Valerie Watts was found at a remote campsite where Brown was staying in early July.

Watt's body was found rolled up in a tarp in a utility trailer at that campsite.

Lake County Sheriff Phil McDonald notes that the homicide has shocked the community...

"Valerie was a longtime resident of Lakeview. She has three children, and her ex-husband still lives in the community also."

Police have not yet released the exact cause of death.

Brown is scheduled to be arraigned on murder charges Thursday afternoon.

Brown was convicted on felony charges of domestic abuse in Sacramento in December of 2004. Brown has been held on a probation violation since July 9th.
