A 19-year-old died in a crash Sunday night on Interstate 25 has been identified as David Collas of Colorado Springs, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The interstate was closed for several hours after the two-vehicle crash at mile marker 132. Roads throughout the Pikes Peak region were slick Sunday night as a snowstorm hit.

Collas, who was not wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene, troopers said.

Collas was the son Colorado Springs Fire Department Battalion Chief Ted Collas and worked as a seasonal employee for the department's Mitigation Crew.

"The Colorado Springs Fire Department is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of David Collas," the department said in a statement. "Our thoughts are prayers are with his family."

David Collas was northbound in a 1995 Toyota Tacoma pickup in the right lane of I-25 when the truck began to spin. It spun into the median and overturned, the patrol said.

David Collas was thrown from the truck into the southbound lanes where he was struck by a 2008 Ford Taurus. The Ford was driven onto the shoulder and stopped.

The Ford's driver, 27-year-old Jamil Gadirov, and all the passengers in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

Alcohol or drug use is not considered to be a contributing factor, the Colorado State Patrol said. Excessive speed for road conditions is suspected in the crash, which remains under investigation.
