Police have identified the person killed Thursday while trying to stop a runaway vehicle as Elizabeth Wells Alexandre.
Alexandre, 52, of Douglas Fraser Towers, 745 Ave. A S.W., was attempting to stop a 2001 Ford Explorer that began rolling out of the parking area when the vehicle knocked her down, pinning her underneath and dragging her down a grassy embankment before coming to rest on the sidewalk, Winter Haven police said.
The accident happened about 4:15 p.m.
According to witnesses, Alexandre had just gotten out of the vehicle when it began rolling down an incline in the parking area.
