US Army Spc. Thomas A. Moffitt, 21, was killed in action Oct. 23 at Sarobi District, Paktika Province, Afghanistan, when his unit was attacked by insurgents with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. He was assigned to Delta Company of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. His unit is known as the "Screaming Eagles." He served as a gunner on a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle. Spc. Moffitt enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school. He served a tour of duty in South Korea prior to his deployment to Afghanistan. Spc. Moffitt was a courageous soldier whose sacrifice will never be forgotten.
