There's new evidence in the case against a Mitchell man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.

36-year-old Kent Davidson faces murder charges in the death of 26-year-old Crystal Schulz of Mitchell.

According to new evidence filed in the case, Schulz talked to her friends about breaking up with Davidson just a few days before she was killed. Documents state Schulz broke up with him on March 10. Davidson then said his suicidal thoughts kicked in.

He is accused of killing Schulz on her mother's farm in rural Chamberlain on March 11. Her body was found on March 14 in a shed on the property.

Davidson was arrested in March after a standoff in Sioux Falls.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty. A trial is scheduled for January.
