The Allen County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the last of three men shot and killed Thursday night and Friday.

Brandon K. Abernathy, 23, of Fort Wayne, was killed while visiting a home in the 1500 block of Gardendale Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday. His name was not released earlier because his next-of-kin had not been told of his death. The cause of death was ruled to be by gunshot, with the manner of death a homicide, the 13th of the year for the county.

Also last week, Dwayne E. Russell, 20, was shot and killed Thursday evening in the 3700 block of Bowser Avenue, with the incident reported to emergency dispatchers at around 6:50 p.m., according to information released earlier by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Officers reportedly found Russell in the yard on the south side of the home at 3717 Bowser, and medics declared him dead at the scene. The coroner's office ruled Russell's cause of death to be by gunshot wound, with the manner of death a homicide. Russell's homicide was the 12th of the year in Allen County.

The coroner's office said that 33-year-old Lucius D. Washington was the person killed by a member of the Indiana State Police early Friday morning, near the area of Main and Cherry streets.

State police earlier had said the trooper was a veteran of more than four years with the ISP. On Friday morning, the state police said the trooper was traveling west on Main when he saw an altercation among multiple individuals and spotted one person leaving the scene on foot.

The trooper, according to the state police, gave the man verbal commands that were disregarded, and the trooper and man then got into a physical altercation.

The release said the trooper then fired his weapon, striking the man an unknown number of times. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Washington's cause of death was ruled to be by gunshot, with the manner of death a homicide by police action shooting. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the State Police, the coroner's office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.

Washington's death is the 14th homicide of the year for the county.
