An experienced snowmobiler died in an avalanche near Huntington Reservoir on Sunday.

Sanpete Sheriff's officials identified the man as Clint Conover, 36, of Ferron.

Conover and three other "highly experienced back country snowmobilers" were near the reservoir around 5 p.m. when an avalanche broke loose, according to a release from the Sanpete County Sheriff's Office on its Facebook page.

Conover was swept up in the avalanche and those with him found him buried under six to eight feet of snow.

The snowmobilers were trained in avalanche rescue and were riding with beacons, probes, shovels and Spot GPS.

They began CPR and sent a message with their GPS that gave their location and asked for help.

Rescue crews from State Parks, Emery and Sanpete counties and an ambulance from Fairview responded.

Conover died from his injuries. The exact cause of his death was not immediately available. He was married and had five children.

Conover's passing comes just one day after a BYU student was caught and killed in an avalanche in American Fork Canyon. Ashleigh Cox, 21, was snow-shoeing with friends when they triggered an avalanche. She was buried for 40 minutes.

These are the seventh and eighth avalanche deaths of the season, according to Avalanche.org.

Avalanche forecasters warn that danger is high or extreme along the Wasatch Front.
