Douglas C. Flynn, age 29, formerly of Lansing, died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep in Ann Arbor on July 20, 2012.
...Doug was born July 19, 1983 in Lansing at Sparrow Hospital to Philip D. and Dawn L. (Caywood) Flynn. He grew up in Lansing where graduated from Lansing Sexton High School in 2001 and then Lansing Community College with an Associate Degree in General Studies.
...He lived in Lansing until recently moving to Ann Arbor. Doug was a musically talented man who taught himself to play the drums, guitar, and keyboard, as well as writing music. He played in several bands in Lansing and also sang in them. He was working with a new band in Ann Arbor. He enjoyed different musical styles, most recently New Age.
...Doug also was an artist who could accomplish detailed drawings. There is still a mural in his childhood bedroom done with a black pen with very detailed characters. He created posters to advertise the bands he played with. Currently he was working on creating a video game with his brother David. He liked to create things and one of them was a old style bicycle that had the high seat, large front tire and small back tire that he rode all around Lansing!
...Doug was Catholic and had been a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lansing where he was baptized.
...He is survived by his parents Philip and Geraldine Flynn and Dawn Flynn all of Lansing, brother David P. Flynn of San Francisco, CA, sisters Kelli (Todd) Schut of Lansing and Bridget L. Flynn and her fiancé Brian Adams of Grand Ledge, step-brother Robert (Beth) Appis of Springfield, OH and Step-sister Chandra (Tony) Delorenzo of Petoskey; 2 nephews Robert Appis Jr. and Nathan Appis; and his companion Peggah Ghoreishi of Ann Arbor. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
...Friends may call Tuesday 5PM-8PM at Craig K.Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 US 27 N., Marshall (1/2 mile south of I-94 Exit 110) where funeral services will be held Wednesday 11AM with Rev. James Codde and Deacon James Mellen officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials to St. Vincent De Paul Children's Center in Lansing or Capital Area Humane Society of Lansing.
