Karen Diane Hundahl, loving mother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Karen now joins her beautiful daughter and angel Amelia in heaven. Karen is survived by her son Taylor Hodges, sister Arden Fitzgerald, brother-in-law Cary Fitzgerald, and niece and nephew Callan and Miles Fitzgerald. Karen's spirit will be carried on by her partner Wayne Neufeld and a large community of caring friends and colleagues in Bellingham. Karen was born on March 17, 1954 in Dallas, Texas, raised by her parents David and Mitzi Hundahl. After getting her Master's degree in Education from the University of North Texas, Karen took off on the open road. She landed in Bellingham and never looked back. Karen loved listening to the sweet rhythm of blues music, making extravagant and playful jewelry, and camping in the outdoors in her camper. Vibrant roses and flowers adorned her walls and furniture, and her belief in fairies and angels were a constant symbol of hope and joy in her life. She was an inspiring public servant, working for the Bellingham Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for 25 years. It was in her nature to put others first, often seeing people in a light that was overwhelmingly insightful and touching. A remembrance service will take place in July, 2014. As arrangements are being made, Karen's family asks that you visit karenhundahl.weebly.com for more details.
