One woman was killed and three people were injured in a two-car collision Thursday morning just outside Rio Vista.
Stacy Dawn Duncan, 38, of Cleburne was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 8:21 a.m. at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 916 and County Road 1205, according to Texas Department of Public Safety reports.
Duncan's 6-year-old son was injured in the accident, as were Tyler Chance Carper, 23, of Cleburne and Logan Marie Littlejohn, 21, also of Cleburne, DPS Trooper Dub Gillum said.
The 6-year-old was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center with serious injuries. An update on his condition was not available by press deadline.
Carper and Littlejohn both also suffered serious injuries in the accident. They were taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, where they were listed in good condition as of Friday afternoon.
Gillum said that Duncan was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup, headed west on FM 916 during a heavy rainstorm. As she approached the intersection of FM 916 and CR 1205, Gillum said, the pickup began to hydroplane and skid sideways into the eastbound lane of FM 916. Carper was driving eastbound on FM 916 in a 2007 Dodge Ram and was unable to avoid a collision with Duncan's truck when it slid into his lane.
Gillum said that Duncan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Johnson County Medical Examiner Gary Morris said Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's website lists her cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle collision.
The trooper said that Duncan's son was riding in the front seat of the truck when the wreck happened and that he was not in a child safety seat. Gillum said the child was wearing a lap seat belt but the shoulder strap of the seatbelt was behind his back instead of across his chest, according to reports by the trooper who investigated.
