It will be a week Saturday that a friend found the body of 31-year-old Margaret Daniels.

Newton Police say Daniels, who was a teacher and later a counselor at Discovery High School, was the victim of a homicide, but a week later they have still not said publicly how she was killed or if they have a suspect in mind.

The Fourth of July was the start of a long weekend for everyone in Newton, but not for police.

Agents from the State Bureau of Investigation and Newton Police are working nearly around the clock and have searched Daniels' apartment twice this week.

Chief Donald Brown of the Newton Police told NBC Charlotte that investigators had had two very successful days but he would not elaborate.

The mysterious death of Daniels continues to be on the minds of almost everyone in town.

"It is just sad to see her go," said Tanner Abernathy, who was helping his father wash their car.

Tanner is a student at Discovery High and remembered how shocked he was to learn Daniels was dead.

"I didn't think it was possible, because nobody… she didn't have enemies. No one hated her. She was just all around nice."

His father, Brad Abernathy added, "You hear about it happening somewhere else, but not around here."

Daniels was from Ohio. Her funeral will be Monday in Cleveland.

A local memorial service is to be held for her in Newton next Wednesday.
