A 23-year-old Waterloo man was killed Saturday in a one vehicle crash in the town of Lowell in Dodge County.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident at 5:32 a.m., where Derek L. Schultz was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dodge County medical examiner. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

A preliminary investigation shows Schultz was traveling north on County Highway I in his Ford F-250 truck and failed to negotiate a curve south of County Highway SS. The truck entered the ditch, striking the embankment, overturning multiple times, resulting in Schultz being ejected from the vehicle.

Schultz was a graduate of Lakeside Lutheran High School.

Agencies assisting the sheriff's department were: Lowell First Responders, Beaver Dam EMS, Lowell Fire Department, Dodge County Medical Examiner and the Dodge County Sheriff's Department Chaplin.

The crash is still under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff's Department
