The rain could not keep people from coming out to a candlelight vigil for a teen who deputies say took her own life.

Pitt County deputies say 13-year-old Allyssa Colclough committed suicide Thursday.

They're investigating whether bullying was a factor in the teen's death.

Ayden Middle School opened its doors tonight for a candlelight vigil after rain threatened to ruin the vigil originally planned for outside of the school.

People packed in the school gymnasium to honor the athlete and aspiring veterinarian.

Counselors are expected to be at the school Monday.

Funeral arrangements for Allyssa Colclough haven't been announced.

For the second time this year, deputies in Pitt County are investigating claims of bullying that may have resulted in the suicide of a teenager.

Deputies say Allyssa Colclough on Thursday took her own life at the age of thirteen.

Allyssa went to Ayden Middle School, and her family says she wanted to be a veterinarian. But her mother says she was acting different on Thursday.

"She called and told me that morning, she wasn't feeling good. I told her to stick it out at school until 11, so she wouldn't miss her classes," said Shannon Harper, the girl's mother.

Allyssa said she wanted to go to cross country practice, but not class, according to her mother. Harper and her husband reminded the girl of her priorities. "She got upset, daddy told her to calm her attitude and I told her the best thing she could do is go to bedroom and do her homework," said Harper.

Then around 4:40 p.m., they discovered their worst nightmare, Allyssa had killed herself.

While Allyssa's close friends say she never mentioned being bullied, deputies have not ruled that out. "Through the early stages of the investigation, we did receive some information that did go on in school," said Major Paula Dance.

Counselors are expected at the school on Monday, while funeral arrangements are underway. A fund has been set up at Southern Bank to help the family with costs.

In April, a 17-year-old North Pitt student killed himself after allegations of on again, off again bullying.
