Fairfax County police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing on Sunday afternoon.

Cara Lynn Golias was found dead near the railroad bridge trestle in the 13200 block of Yates Ford Road in the Hemlock Overlook Regional Park at around 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, police said.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, however, detectives do not suspect any criminal activity nor public safety threat involved, according to police.

Sources tell WUSA9 reporter Peggy Fox that it was an apparent suicide.

Golias was last seen on Sunday near Manassas Park Middle School. Fairfax police say she may have voluntarily left that area Sunday afternoon, walking through nearby woods.
