Police have identified the teen driver killed Monday night in a two-vehicle crash on the Southwestside.
Jeslynn Spaulding, 18, Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Ameriplex Parkway, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
IMPD officers responded to reports of an overturned vehicle in the intersection about 8 p.m. Monday. The car had caught fire after crashing into a utility pole, police said.
EMS and Indianapolis Fire Department crews also responded to the scene. Firefighters extinguished the flames on the car and found Spaulding unresponsive inside.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Spaulding was driving her Pontiac Grand Prix at a high rate of speed when she attempted to change lanes. As she made the move, the vehicle clipped the back of a Chevy Silverado.
The impact sent Spaulding's vehicle barreling toward a utility pole on the side of the road, police said. No one else was hurt in the crash.
Police said the incident remains under investigation.
