A Pollok man and a Lufkin man were killed in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on state Highway 103 west, about 10 miles outside Lufkin's Loop 287, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Clint Henderson.

Richard Luce, 50, of Pollok, and Colten Lawrence, 20, of Lufkin, the drivers of both vehicles, both died in the collision in which both trucks immediately caught fire, according to DPS trooper Tamela Snider.

Snider said Luce and his passenger, Edward Basham, 37, of Hemphill were heading westbound in a 1991 Chevrolet pickup and passing a slower vehicle when they collided with Lawrence in his 1993 Toyota truck, which was eastbound.

Basham was seen walking at the scene but was taken to Memorial Medical Center-Lufkin with possible injuries.
The highway was temporarily shut down while emergency and law enforcement personnel worked the scene.
The Hudson and Central volunteer fire departments responded to the scene, as did the Lufkin Fire Department, Angelina County Sheriff's Office, Angelina County Pct. 1 Constable Tom Selman and DPS officials.
