Darin Richard Pedersen died of a heart attack on Sept. 14, 2013, in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was 39 years old.

Darin was born on May 14, 1974, in Spokane to Bob and Pat Pedersen.

Growing up, Darin enjoyed camping, snowboarding, wakeboarding and spending summers with his Grandpa Jack in Montana. He was also involved in scouting, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

Darin graduated from Mead High School in 1993. In 1998, he graduated from Washington State University with a degree in civil engineering, and in 2007 he earned his MBA from Gonzaga University.

Darin's career began at Atwood Hinzman Jones in Boise as a structural engineer. While there, he became a licensed professional engineer. He later went to work for Integrus Architecture in Spokane and then on to BL Harbert International in Birmingham, Ala. He was a project engineer in the construction of U.S. embassies. He lived and worked in Togo, Madagascar, Sudan and Pakistan. At the time of his death, he was working as a project manager on the U.S. embassy in Islamabad.

Darin found the love of his life when he met April Cooper in Boise. They were married on July 7, 2012, in Asotin, and made their home in Islamabad. On April 28, 2013, they rejoiced in the birth of their first child, Owen Jack.

Darin had a steady demeanor and bright smile. He was an outstanding leader and mentor and had a significant impact on those who knew him. He was very generous in offering his time and talents to help others fix things and build things. Darin had a great sense of humor, was very thoughtful, and had a knack for planning and organizing.

Darin is survived by his wife, April; son Owen Jack; parents Bob and Pat; grandfather Jack; sister Alisa (Greg); aunt Laura (Robin) Turner; numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins; his mother-in-law, Sharon; father-in-law Rusty; and April's siblings and their families.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Parish, 3720 E. Colbert Road, Colbert, Wash. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Tim Hays at St Joseph's, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane.
