Police are continuing their investigation into a single-vehicle crash that killed a Streator High School honors student and injured three other teenage boys.

Benjamin Newton, 17, a junior at the school, was pronounced dead Wednesday evening in a field west of East 18th Road off Illinois, 23 north of town.

The school named him earlier in the year for "high honors" for his academic achievements.

The three teenage boys were first taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Streator; two were later flown to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Their names and conditions are not yet available.

LaSalle County sheriff's deputies said all four teenagers were thrown from the vehicle.

Extracurricular activities at the high school were canceled on Thursday while grief counseling was made available, said a statement released by the school.
