Laura Mackey Cospito, 63, passed away on December 31, 2014 of natural causes. Daughter of the late Robert and Janet Mackey, born on January 7, 1951 in Chicago, Ill, she was raised in Skokie, Ill and in Pompano Beach and Boca Raton, Fla. She graduated from Boca Raton High School in 1969 and from Florida Atlantic University in 1973. Laura was an artist and studied glass blowing in Normal, Ill. She moved to Seattle, Wash. in 1981 with her now ex-husband, John Cospito, and lived in Seattle until her death. During her time in Seattle, Laura studied American Sign Language and worked as an interpreter. Many Seattle residents may know Laura from the time she owned and operated the "Bear Essentials" store. Towards the end of her career, Laura worked as a para-educator and ASL translator for Edmonds School District. Survived by sisters, Pamela Butler of St. Petersburg, Fla., Megan Stengel of Milledgeville, Ga. and Elizabeth Bigelow of Westfield, Mass.; missed by large extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Laura's Seattle friends for the kind words and for the visits they received during their brief stay in Seattle. A private celebration for family will be held in Delray Beach, Fla. in February. A local memorial will be held on January 31, 2015 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Community Center, 3003 NW 66th St, Seattle, 98117. All are invited to attend.
