A 19-year-old Dover teen was struck and killed early Thursday morning as he rode his skateboard southbound on Kenton Road north of Fieldstone Court.

The 4:14 a.m. accident killed Justin Lai.

Dover Police said Lai was struck by a black, Ford Focus. The 22-year-old driver, whose name was not released by police, was not injured. Both the vehicle driver and Lai were traveling southbound in the southbound travel lane of the two-lane road. The driver of the Focus lost control of his vehicle after hitting Lai and struck a tree on the west side of the road.

Police spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the area was not well lighted and Lai was wearing all black clothing.

The accident is under investigation.
