A 26-year-old Austin man died in a rappelling accident in Mexico over the weekend.

Friends say 26-year-old Andrew Poole was rappelling for less than a minute when there were loud cracking sounds and a scream.

A witness told Mexican authorities they saw a rope whip through the chains and it appeared there were no knots tied at the end of the rope.

Poole's body was found more than an hour later with a major head injury.
