A middle school student in Burleson died early Friday after being taken to Cook's Children Medical Center on Thursday night.

Mekasha Brown, principal of Hughes Middle School in Burleson, notified parents of the death of Benjamin Bowling, 12, in a letter on the school district's website. Crisis counselors will be at the school Monday, the letter says, and will remain on campus as needed throughout next week.

"The death of a classmate can be difficult for adolescents to handle and our professional staff is prepared to provide the emotional support our students and colleagues may need," the letter says. "… Our hearts are filled with grief for the families and friends affected, and we ask you to join us in respecting their space and privacy during this difficult time."

No information was released on how the youth died. A ruling on the cause and manner of death is expected from the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.
