Police have released new information on the murder of a dental student in California, hoping it will generate tips from the public.

Randhir Paul, 37, was found dead in her apartment in Albany, California Monday with a gunshot wound to the head. Police believe she had been killed the day before.

Police said items belonging to Paul were found in a trash can two miles away in Richmond. A Coach handbag containing Paul's ID and credit cards and a bag of blood-stained clothing were recovered from the trash can. Police have no motive or suspects and are hoping what was found in the trash can will bring in more information from the public.

"We're hoping that, in fact, it may generate more calls that will help us discover why those items were left there and who did it," said Albany's police chief. "Because at this point, we're going off the assumption that they were removed from the crime scene by the responsible for some purpose."

Paul, who was from India, attended dental school at the University of California San Francisco. She was due to graduate next year from the school's International Dentist Program. She was also a regular at the local Sikh temple and had just come home from services the night she was killed.

A candlelight vigil for Paul will take place Monday night at the school.
