A 28-year-old woman who was found dead in her northwest Omaha house was killed by another person, police said Friday.

In the hours after she was discovered Thursday morning, police said Jessica Nelson's death was suspicious. On Friday, they said it was a homicide.

Police have not released the cause of Nelson's death. They have not announced an arrest.

Nelson, a First National Bank employee, was found in the house she rented at 2705 N. 83rd St.

She was described Friday as a pleasant, friendly neighbor.

A neighbor called her "a very sweet girl" who would wave as she came and went. Nelson was "a quiet, mind-her-own-business kind of girl,'' the neighbor said.
An inflatable swimming pool sat in the backyard of the house where Nelson was living. Plastic children's toys were scattered around the back lawn. A small sign hanging on the front door reads, "Peace."

The owner of the rental home declined to comment.
Friday morning, a woman who said she was Nelson's mother said relatives may answer reporters' questions next week.

"We're still trying to figure out what happened,'' she said as she stood outside her home.

Nelson's death was reported to authorities about 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Nelson worked in collections and administrative recovery at First National Bank.

"All of us at First National Bank send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Jessica's family," bank spokesman Kevin Langin said Friday.

Nelson had noted on her Facebook page that she attended North High School from 2001 to 2005.
Gene Haynes, North's principal, said Nelson was well-liked by students and staff.

"She was very serious about her school work," he said. "We're very sorry about what happened. She was someone we were very proud of at North.''
