The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at 5:56 p.m. today.
The crash occurred on State Route 18 (Medina Road), just west of Springside Drive, in Bath Township.
Andrew J. Hayes, 19, of Medina, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck westbound on State Route 18, when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the right side of the road, striking a curb and a utility pole.
Hayes sustained serious injuries during the crash and was taken to Akron General Hospital by the Bath Township Fire Department. Hayes was later pronounced dead.
Sean M. Kolcun, 19, of Hinckley, was a passenger in the vehicle.
Kolcun sustained serious injuries during the crash and was taken to Akron General Hospital by the Bath Township Fire Department for evaluation.
Neither man was wearing a safety belt.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, The crash remains under investigation.
