Medical examiners said the victim in an apparent home invasion in northeast Las Vegas died of blunt force head trauma.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the man as Edward Michael Turner, 47, of Las Vegas. His death was ruled a homicide.

A woman arrested in connection to Turner's death also appeared for her initial hearing on Thursday. Jennifer Mustachia, 33, appeared before a judge in Las Vegas Justice Court. A preliminary hearing for Mustachia was set for May 8.

According to police, the break-in linked to Turner's death happened at a home in the 6600 block of Fallona Avenue, near the intersection of Lake Mead and Hollywood boulevards.

Investigators said that an injured woman showed up at a convenience store near Lake Mead and Hollywood and told the clerk that she was the victim of a home invasion. Police responded and the woman led them to the scene, where they found a man who had been beaten to death.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

By Tuesday evening, police said they had arrested 33-year-old Jennifer Mustachia in connection with the case, and were still looking for two others.

According to Mustachia's arrest report, the female victim, who is confined to a wheelchair, told police that she and a family member, the male victim, were watching television about 10 p.m. Monday, when they heard a knock at the door. When the man answered, three people, including Mustachia, with whom she was acquainted, entered the home. The trio began hitting the man in the head with a crow bar and kicking him. Mustachia told the female victim to come watch the man die. Mustachia then began hitting the wheelchair-bound woman in the head with a souvenir bat, which left a gash on her head.

According to the report, Mustachia and the two others ransacked the home for about two hours, looking for valuables. Eventually, the two that came with Mustachia left and she fell asleep. The female victim was then able to sneak out of the home and seek help.

Mustachia told police, according to the report, that she had helped take care of the wheelchair-bound woman in the past, but she hadn't been to the home in several months because she was in jail. She said that she went over to the home that night to see the female victim, and that two men, who she did not know, stormed in behind her when the door was answered and began attacking the male victim. She said she used the small bat and an unloaded gun she found at the home to try to stop the attack. She said the gun scared off the attackers.

According to the report, arriving officers found Mustachia asleep at the home with blood on her clothes.

At the home, detectives found piles of valuable items, a metal crow bar with blood on it, a souvenir bat with blood on it, a telephone in a toilet and an unloaded .38-caliber revolver.

Mustachia has been charged with murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to murder, battery with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary while in the possession of a gun, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree conspiracy to kidnap and conspiracy to rob. She was being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $140,000 bail.
