A crash between a motorcycle and an automobile in Springfield Township on Saturday evening left a man dead and a woman in critical condition.

According to the Jackson Township Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Matthew Zupancic of Akron was traveling west on U.S. 224 at Neal Road on his Yamaha motorcycle when a Chevrolet Tahoe pulled in front of him and Zupancic struck the vehicle.

The highway patrol said the driver of the Tahoe, 59-year-old Richard R. Wagner Jr. of Green, failed to yield while turning left from a stop sign at Neal Road onto 224.

Zupancic and his passenger, Christol Vecchio, 37, of Akron, were wearing helmets. However, Zupancic was pronounced dead on scene.

Vecchio was taken by Lakemore EMS to Summa Akron City Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Wagner and his passenger, Laura K. Wagner, 55, of Green, were wearing seatbelts and were released from the scene with no injuries, the highway patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation.
