An Akron woman pleaded guilty Friday to stabbing her boyfriend to death.

Mareshah Livingston, 24, entered the plea to voluntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony that carries up to 11 years in prison.

Summit County Judge Todd McKenney ordered a background report that will help him determine the length of sentence he'll hand down at an Aug. 25 hearing.

Voluntary manslaughter carries a presumption of prison, but the judge also has discretion to sentence Livingston to probation. Hart's family members are expected to speak at the hearing.

Livingston's trial was set to begin Monday.

Assistant Summit County Prosecutor Greg Peacock said during Friday's hearing that the resolution fit the facts of the case. Defense attorney Jon Sinn agreed.

"This is not a win-win," Sinn said. "It's a lose-lose. It's sad for everyone involved."

Livingston and Hart had a history of domestic fights and the two fought on Oct. 16 at Livingston's home in the 1200 block of Everton Drive.

Livingston is accused of stabbing the David A. Hart Jr., 23, about 12:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Everton Drive. Livingston pushed and shoved Hart, who is the father of her two children.

She chased him outside with a kitchen knife about 12:30 a.m. and stabbed him once in the center of his chest.

Hart was taken to Akron General Medical Center, where died about an hour later, the Summit County medical examiner said.
