The victim in a Gordonville, Missouri shooting on Thursday evening has been identified.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton said 27-year-old Melissa Luttrell died.

Captain David James with Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department says Luttrell's autopsy results came back Saturday and the cause of death is a gunshot wound to the chest.

The suspect is in the hospital awaiting improvement. No suspects at are wanted, and no formal charges have been filed. An investigation continues.

It happened at the intersection of Highways F and Z.

According to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office, they got a medical call just before 4 p.m. and then got a second call for medical assist.

Investigators say Luttrell's mother found her daughter shot inside the home. They say she thought Luttrell was having a seizure and called 911.

Deputies say the shooting involved a family member who then shot himself.

They say no charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.

According to Captain David James with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office, they are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

"It'll be treated as a homicide investigation and the major case squad has not been called out just yet due to the fact there's not a large number of witnesses that need to be chased down; and it's kind of a small area," James said.

He said the male shooter was taken to the hospital for surgery and is expected to survive.

Investigators say they do not know what led to the shooting.

According to family, Luttrell was a mother of three young children.
