Three people, including Gadsden City High School student Anthony Hale, were wounded around midnight Saturday in a shooting outside ClubStatus on Broad Street in downtown Gadsden.

Hale, 17, died at UAB Hospital at 8:44 a.m. today, Etowah County Coroner Michael Head said. According to police reports, two others received wounds when a group of men began shooting into a crowd outside the club.

The incident happened about 12:04 a.m. Saturday, reports stated. A "large group" began fighting inside the club and on stage, with some people throwing chairs. The fight spilled out into the streets, and into a parking lot at North Seventh Street and Broad Street.

"Several black males with multiple firearms" began shooting into the crowd, the report stated.

Hale was shot in the head and transported by ambulance to UAB Hospital. Another male was wounded in the buttocks and taken to Riverview Regional Medical Center. A third male was wounded in the leg. He was also taken to Riverview.

Hale's father posted a photograph of his son in the hospital, saying his heart will be used for a transplant.

"I love you with all my heart and you will live on through other kids. Because your organs will be donated, your heart will never stop beating," he wrote.
