A man died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle wreck after a car left the 2000 block of Sonora Hardin Springs Road and struck a tree in front of a residence.

Cody Jenkins, 27, of Elizabethtown, was driving a black 2006 Hyundai Sonota traveling eastbound on the road when, just before 6 a.m., his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, according to Kentucky State Police spokesman Jeff Gregory. Jenkins overcorrected and his vehicle struck a utility pole guide wire, a private drive, and struck a tree head-on.

The wreck occurred just inside Sonora city limits at the entrance to a subdivision.

Jenkins' car came to rest about 25 feet from the tree after impact. Debris from the car flew off and struck another vehicle sitting in the driveway of the residence, causing minor damage.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash as toxicology results are pending.

Sonora and Elizabethtown fire departments, Hardin County EMS, Kentucky State Police and Hardin County Coroner's Office personnel responded to the scene.

Deputy Coroner Shana Norton pronounced Jenkins dead at the scene.

Hardin County EMS transported Jenkins' body from the scene to the coroner's office for preliminary testing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
