Faculty and Staff,
It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that last night at around 5:00pm Lake Mary High School 12th grade student, Alex Ramos passed away. Alex's long battle with cancer is now over. The Facebook Site – Fight for Alex posted, "Alex earned her angel wings today at 5pm. She went in peace with her family surrounding her!!"
Just as soon as I had heard about this I had started texting out to as many of you as I could. Throughout the evening I had heard from many of you as we were texting back and forth about this very sad situation and this beautiful young lady.
I want to once again THANK ALL of you for the outpouring of love and support that you have been giving to Alex and her family over the last four years. From the original Fight for Alex campaign, the pancake breakfast during Alex's freshmen year to help raise funds for her family and their medical bills, to the recent efforts by the Cancer Awareness Club and the $3,600 plus they raised to give to her family. As a school community you constantly answered the call and whether it was with the money, banners, cards, t-shirts, home visits, etc. you and our students continuously demonstrated love. It has always been about the RAMNATION family surrounding Alex and her family with our collective love, support, positive thoughts, and prayers. I cannot thank you enough for rallying as a community for one of our own.
I don't know what to anticipate on Monday as far as the student's reaction but I do believe we'll see many of Alex's friends looking for support. Therefore on Monday we will have our Guidance Counselors set-up ready to provide the help that they might be looking for from us. I will do a moment of silence to start our day so please plan for this.
As I have more information as far as services I'll pass it along to you. I'm sure we'll be in touch with her family at some point or if anything we'll follow the latest happenings via Facebook.
Please be sure to take time today to love your own family because it is something like this that often reminds us just how special our own lives and families really are.
Until then, do keep Alex, her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. May Alex's soul rest in peace.
