Montgomery County officials are planning on conducting toxicology tests on the body of a 21-year-old Villanova University student who was found dead in the bed of his apartment Saturday morning in Bryn Mawr, officials said.

Lower Merion police Monday reported that Matthew Ainsworth was found by his roommate lying on his bed and unresponsive Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in his apartment at 801 Montgomery Ave. in Bryn Mawr. According to the report issued by police during their weekly police press briefing Monday, Ainsworth wasfound fully clothed. Police had little other information at the time.

Montgomery County officials are now looking into the death.

"His cause of death right now is pending," Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Walter Hofman said Tuesday. "This is a non-injury death and we're going to do some chemical tests and look at other material before we arrive at a cause and manner of death."

When asked about the Ainsworth case, Hofman said it is not unusual for investigators to consider alcohol a factor in a young person's death.

"When a 21-year-old suddenly dies … that's high on the list," he said.

The chemical analysis could take up to four to six weeks to complete and an exact cause of death would likely not be made until then, Hofman added.

When asked if there were drugs or alcohol in the room when Ainsworth was found, Hofman said he could not discuss that.

Jonathan Gust, director of media relations at Villanova, said Ainsworth was a junior engineering student at the school. According to Gust, he was remembered at the university this weekend.
