A 41-year-old woman was killed in a motorcycle crash early Tuesday in Oxnard, officials said.

The crash was reported about 12:25 a.m. at Trinity Place and San Benito Street. Officers found a motorcyclist, Claudia Sanchez, of Oxnard, unconscious and unresponsive. Officers and medical personnel performed CPR, but Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated Sanchez was riding the motorcycle south on Trinity Place approaching its T-shaped intersection with San Benito Street at a high rate of speed, police said. For an unknown reason, she traveled through the intersection and crashed into the curb on the south side of San Benito Street.

Sanchez, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and landed on a landscaped embankment and rear wall of a strip mall in the 2100 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard, which runs parallel to San Benito, police said.

Although speed was a factor in the collision, it remained under investigation, police said. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Senior Officer Maria Peña at 385-7750 or [email protected].
