Holly Laura Dolkas (nee Hibbard) was born December 23, 1957 in Pasadena, Calif. to Laura and Kenneth Hibbard. She passed away at the age of 57 on October 9, 2015 in Auburn, Calif. after a 17-month battle with brain cancer. She will be dearly missed.
Holly grew up in Monterey Park, Brea, and Santa Ana, Calif., where she was captain of the high school tennis team. She attended Santa Ana College, earned an AA degree, and was employed for a time as a legal secretary.
In 1980 she moved to Roseville, Calif., and became employed at Hewlett-Packard Co. There she met her future husband, Gregory Dolkas, who was an engineer. They were married in April 1982, moved to Auburn, Calif. in 1983, and have lived in the same home ever since. Holly retired from HP when their children were born and became a full-time stay-at-home mom.
She dedicated her life to her family and her community. As a loving mother of two, she was often found in the classroom or helping chaperone field trips. She also helped organize school functions, such as Auburn Elementary's Fall Festival and reading programs, and the Placer High School Senior Projects. Holly was the Wednesday morning cashier at the American Cancer Society 's Discovery Shop for over a decade, greeting the Auburn community with her warm smile. She was also active in the Foothill Quilters Guild, both as a student and maker of many quilts, and as a member or chairperson for many of the Guild's committees. You may have seen her award-winning quilts on display at the Gold Country Fair or at the Guild's annual show. Holly sewed and donated a number of quilts to Project Linus for children in need. Being involved in the Guild and community is more than just classes and committees; it's also about friendship, and Holly cherished the many friends that she made over the years.
A budding geneologist, Holly traces her family history back to the Revolutionary War where one of her ancestors fought for the colonists. Because of this, she was accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a non-profit organization that promotes historic preservation and education.
Holly was preceeded in death by her father, Kenneth Hibbard, and is survived by her mother, Laura Hibbard of Auburn, Calif.; sister, Cynthia Smith of Lakewood, Wash.; husband of 33 years, Gregory Dolkas of Auburn, Calif.; and children, Megan Carter of Marina, Calif., and Rachel Dolkas of Palo Alto, Calif.
The family is organizing a potluck memorial for Holly's many friends in November. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society , or to the Discovery Shop, would be greatly appreciated. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/auburnjournal/obituary.aspx?n=holly-laura-dolkas-hibbard&pid=176217673#sthash.ZX1B2BXB.dpuf
