One man is dead following a police action shooting.

According to IMPD Dispatch, the deadly incident happened in the 7900 block of Red Mill Drive just after 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police said that they responded to a call of a person who was trying to commit suicide. When they entered the apartment complex, they encountered Christopher Goodlow, 25, from Indianapolis brandishing a knife.

According to police, when Goodlow refused to drop the knife or surrender to police, police officers used a taser twice on him. The taser was unsuccessful in subduing Goodlow.

When he refused to drop the knife, two separate officers shot him, police said. The Goodlow was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that Goodlow did not act as if he was under the influence of any substances, but that the coroner would make those determinations after an autopsy had been conducted.

IMPD Homicide detectives and detectives with the Critical Incident Response Team also responded to the scene.

They are conducting a criminal investigation into the incident. Investigators with IMPD Internal Affairs will conduct a separate administrative investigation to determine compliance with department policy.

Police said that the involved officers were placed on paid administrative leave, as part of standard procedure in any officer involved shooting investigation.
