A crowdfunding campaign has been set up to help the young family left behind by a Canadian man after he drowned while on a family vacation in Australia Saturday.

Local media say reports of a man struggling in the waters off Lake Conjola Beach brought police to the scene just after lunch.

"They tried to resuscitate him on the beach and administer shocks and try to give any kind of medical care, but it was not successful," Tylor's sister Dale told CBC News.

Tylor was a BC Hydro employee and the main income earner for his family. So his sister launched a GoFundMe campaign to give her brother's wife Winnie and seven-month-old daughter Arianna a financial cushion during the holidays.

"More than anything Chris loved his family… he was a tremendously doting husband and father," the campaign description reads.

"Winnie and Arianna are devastated."

'A true original'

Tylor recently ran as a federal election candidate in the riding of Burnaby North-Seymour under the Libertarian Party of Canada banner. He finished fifth in the eight-candidate race.

"Chris was a true original. He was kind. He was honest," reads the GoFundMe campaign description.

On Monday, a donor left a message addressed to Arianna expressing hope she grows up to be healthy and strong and in a position to maybe have her own family one day.

When you look into your baby's eyes, there you will find Chris again. He felt the same way about you, and that new little baby of yours is actually made from elements of him! You may think about your father a lot, but you will physically connect with him now, through your child. You will feel that endless, positive, beautiful and complete love that he felt for you.
Donors have so far given over $10,000 toward the campaign's $20,000 goal.
