Bessemer police have released an image of a man they would like to question a potential witness in the death of a gas station clerk.

Police say this man entered and left the store just minutes before the robbery and was traveling in a vehicle.

Authorities have also identified the gas station clerk killed in an early morning robbery in Bessemer.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said 27-year-old Trenton James Way was killed around 1:30 a.m. during a robbery at the Kangaroo gas station on Highway 150 and Fairfax Avenue. He was a Dolomite resident.

Money and unknown items were also taken during the robbery, according to Bessemer Police Chief Nathaniel Rutledge. Shots were fired outside of the convenience store but no one was injured from those shots.

"Basically, you got a terrible situation, you have a person who has no regard for life or anything just came in took some money and some merchandise," Rutledge said.

Investigators are still searching for a suspect or suspects in the case.
