COURTLAND, VIRGINIA - Chad Amburgey, 36, a former resident of Castlewood, Virginia, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tennessee after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born in Bristol, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carla Amburgey King; maternal grandfather, Clyde Penland; paternal grandparents, Beecher and Alma Amburgey; and step grandfather, D. L. Bartee. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1998. He had an associates degree in Electronics from Mountain Empire Community College and a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Bluefield College. He graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy in 2008. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force during the Iraq War. He was a member of the American Legion Darrell C. Shifty Powers Post #243 in Norton, Virginia and a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge # 151 A.F. & A.M. in Franklin, Virginia

He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Betty Penland Amburgey of Castlewood, Virginia; maternal grandmother, Allene Penland of Castlewood, Virginia; special girl friend, Ania Przygocki and family of Franklin, Virginia; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Funeral Services for Chad Amburgey will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with 1st Sergeant Mike Honaker officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum, Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday by the Franklin Masonic Lodge #151 A.F. & A.M. and the Castlewood Masonic Lodge #231 A.F. & A.M. Pallbearers will be the State Police Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Uncles and Cousins.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Virginia State Police Association, 6944 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23225. The family wants to give special thanks to the Doctors and Nursing staff at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and Bristol Regional Medical Center, also the Virginia State Police and the Texas State Police.
