"Mister Ed" star and Emmy-award winning actor Alan Young died Thursday.

The veteran actor was 96 and died of natural causes at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, Calif., where he was a resident for the past four years, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Young is best known for his role of wacky Wilbur Post on "Mister Ed," which aired during the early-sixties. He played the owner of horse Mister Ed, who was only able to communicate with Post.

The CBS sitcom was one of the first programs at the time to be picked up by a major network.
