Barri Shank, of Bay Village, Ohio, was shot and killed outside the Hyatt Place Hotel in North Charleston on Memorial Day.

The shooting happened as Shank was taking his dogs out. His wife found him a short time later lying on the ground.

While police have no suspects and no motive, Shank's brother, Ben Shank, also of Bay Village, is looking to help bring justice to his killer and possibly stop future violence.

Shank has started a Go Fund Me page to raise money for Crimestoppers to offer a reward information that could help find a suspect in the case.

"With no surveillance cameras anywhere outside the hotel, North Charleston Police are unable to identify a suspect. No witnesses have stepped forward and no leads have been generated to help with the investigation," said Shank on the Go Fund Me page.

The page has raised more than $36,000.

"When you see the support that pours in like this…It's exactly what he would do for other people," said Ben.

"North Charleston Police suggest that by increasing the reward amount, it will encourage people to speak up. Together we are hopeful that by doing this, we may be able to get justice for Barri, but also prevent other families from suffering through this same nightmare," said the post.

In a phone interview, Ben says he and his family are still shaken up by the death of his brother. Additionally, Ben says he knows people who have now cancelled trips to South Carolina after learning about the amount of violence in the Charleston-area.
"It's a scary thing. I think the crime that's been taking place there recently is definitely something that's going to deter people from wanting to come there," said Ben.

According to North Charleston Police, there have been a total of 15 murders in the city this year. There were 21 total in 2015.

"We've had one tourist shot. The rest of them were people who know each other," said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey.

"I think this was a freak incident. I think this was a sad incident," said Summey.

We also asked the mayor if he plans to take action in anyway to combat violence in the city.
"There's action that takes place every day. It's police on patrol looking at the areas. Every Monday we look at the stats the number of calls for services in every area, and that's where the excess officers go," said Summey.

He also says he's going to work on an ordinance to make sure surveillance cameras are installed outside certain businesses.
