Carie Ann Shurtz-Castaneda, 33, lifetime Westport resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Carie was born on June 13, 1982 in Aberdeen to Robin W. and Shelly J. (Richardson) Shurtz. She attended school in Ocosta and was active in AWANA and AWANA Olympics when she was a kid.

In 2012, she married Anthony D. Castaneda in the Willapa Hills. He lives at the family home.

She attended South Beach Christian Church and loved being with her kids and grandkids. She also liked to dye her hair and playing with her cats.

Carie is survived by her husband Anthony Castaneda of Westport; sons: Robbie Smith and Jacob Smith of Michigan; step-daughter: Tricia (Thomas) Stokes of Westport; sister, Lisa Shurtz-Kinnaman of Brady, Wash.; three grandsons; grandparents: Delores Dempsey and Gerald Shurtz of Michigan. She also leaves behind two nieces, Izzy and Kyla and a nephew, Andrew whom she adored.

A potluck memorial and celebration of Carie's life will take place at The Westport VFW Youth hall on Jan. 16 at 2 p.m.
