A Lexington shooting victim has been identified as an individual originally from Lewis County.

Lexington Police spokesperson Brenna Angel said that while she could not confirm the identity of the shooting victim, she did know he was originally from Vanceburg.

Since then, however, family members and friends have identified the victim as 27-year-old DeeJay Jordan.

According to Angel, on Thursday, around 2:49 a.m., Jordan and a female were walking along the 300 block of Maxwell Street in Lexington, when another individual approached them.

Jordan suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to University of Kentucky hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to Angel.

Angel said officers do not know the motive for the shooting and are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect, who is described as a young, black male who fled on foot down Linden Walk.

"We do believe it to be random, as in we don't know the motive behind the shooting or what may have been going through the suspect's mind at the time," Angel said. "It appears it could have been a wrong place at the wrong time type of incident."

According to Angel, officers also believe there were witnesses in the area. They are urging anyone with information to call the police at 859-258-3600. All information can remain anonymous.

Angel said the shooting is similar to an incident that happened last year in which a University of Kentucky student was out walking when he was shot and killed during a robbery attempt.
