Indiana conservation officers have recovered the body of an Indianapolis man who went missing Saturday night on Geist Reservoir.

Andrew Dimitroff, 24, was reported missing around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. He was last seen on the water with a large group of boaters anchored in Cocktail Cove, according to conservation officer Mark Baker.

After searching the area until midnight, police resumed the search around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Dimitroff's body was recovered at 9:23 a.m. Sunday by divers from the Fishers Police Department in 23 feet of water. Conservation officers used side scan sonar to locate the body.

Investigators learned that Dimitroff and the others had put out two large inflatable rafts and were taking turns jumping into the water, Baker said.

One of the other boaters called 911 when they realized that Dimitroff could not be located.

Conservation officers, the Fishers police and fire departments and the Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the area and began searching for Dimitroff.

Divers, boats and sonar units were used to scan the bottom of the cove.

Officials said Dimitroff was not wearing a life jacket at the time of his disappearance, and alcohol may have been a factor.

"An autopsy is scheduled for later this afternoon at the request of the Hamilton County coroner's office to determine cause of death," said a statement from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. "Indiana conservation officers would like to remind the boating public of the importance of taking the extra few seconds to put on a life jacket prior to entering the water for any reason."
