One person was killed and another arrested after a single-car crash at 1:41 a.m. Oct. 2 in the 1500 block of Poplar Grove Road in Boone.
According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a 2004 Hyundai driven by Juliana Groce, 22, of Charlotte attempted a left-hand turn on Poplar Grove Road at a high rate of speed.
According to the report, Groce's vehicle left the road, struck a guardrail and continued, coming to a stop after colliding with a large tree.
An SHP spokesman said the vehicle's passenger, Warrick Louis Fister, 20, of Holly Springs, later died at Johnson City Medical Center.
Groce was arrested by the SHP after the accident and charged with assault on a government official, DWI, failure to maintain lane control and failure to appear in court on a charge of possession of marijuana.
A Watauga County Sheriff's Office shift report said Groce allegedly kicked a WCSO deputy after the crash.
