A sports utility vehicle leaking gasoline ignited a grass fire Friday night that engulfed the vehicle, killing the driver on Webb Lynn Road, police said Tuesday.

The 48-year-old Arlington woman was unable to get out of the driver's side door because it was obstructed, police Sgt. VaNessa Harrison said Tuesday in a telephone interview.

Officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner's office identified the victim as Renata Long. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the blaze. She died from burns and smoke inhalation, but the manner of death was pending, officials said.

Her sports utility vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, was found in a ditch near Webb Lynn Road, authorities said.

Police responded to a major crash call about 11 p.m. Friday in the 7000 block of Webb Lynn Road.

Harrison said that Long pulled off the street after experiencing problems with the SUV. "The leaking gas started a grass fire where she stopped," Harrison said. "The driver's door was obstructed by signs or something to where she couldn't get out that way."

Police don't know why Long did not try to get out the passenger door.

A resident tried to help Long get out but couldn't free her, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
