Salem Police say a man has died after a house fire that happened Friday.

The victim was 23-year-old Bradley Wright, according to Salem Police Major Scott Ratts.

Major Ratts said the fire happened in the 500 block of Colony Drive in Salem. Officials with the Salem Police and Fire Departments went to the scene at around 10:30 a.m.

Ratts said Wright's body was found inside a bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Family tells WDRB Wright's mother left the home Friday morning for no more than an hour. When she arrived back, the house was filled with smoke and she grabbed a rock outside to break through her son's window.

"She said she saw the bed, she saw the flames just around the bed," Bradley's brother Dustin Wright said. "She knew at that point it was too late and nothing could be done."

The fire was quickly contained, according to officials.

Most of the fire damage to the home happened in the bedroom where Wright's body was found, according to Ratts. Police say there was minimal smoke damage in other parts of the home. Police say the fire appears to have started in the bedroom.

The victim's best friend, Andrew Thomas, said Bradley was funny, kind and knew how to make anyone feel accepted.

"He's one of a kind, honestly. I was telling someone today I was like you'll never find another one like him," Thomas said. "He was too good for us. He was everything we needed to strive to be."

Now grieving family members are left picking up the pieces -- dealing with the expenses of a funeral and repairing their home. They have set up this Go Fund Me Page asking anyone to help.

An autopsy on Wright's body was completed at the Washington County Coroner's Office on Saturday morning. Coroner Rondale Brishaber says the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are working to determine what caused the fire. The Indiana State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the fire.
