An Indianapolis man was killed early Tuesday in a shooting that occurred during a suspected robbery.

Shortly after midnight, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 1500 block of Barrington Avenue on a report of a person shot.

Investigators found Jason Alexander, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Alexander was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital where the was pronounced dead hours later.

"At this time, homicide detectives believe robbery to be the motive in this shooting. Several individuals were inside of the apartment at the time of the shooting," said a statement from IMPD. "IMPD is asking for those individuals present at the time of the shooting to do the right thing and come forward with information about the suspect."
